There is to be a premier showing of the documentry concerning the SOE raids on the Orkla Mines. The showing is to take place within the mine complex on March 13/14th to invited guests including Lita Deinboll, Peter Deinboll's sister. The documentry has been put together by Christian Falch and his colleagues who have given a significant amount of time and energy to the making of the film with the focus on great attention to detail and accuracy.

Hai

The Naval Air Service used before the war 4 Breda Ba.28 biplane trainers on floats.

One was tested on skies, for that purposes they used skies of the Kaje trainer.

With the opening of the airport Sola Stavanger there should have been two Ba.28 there.

Who can help me with drawings/dimensions of the skies used on the Kaje, maybe there is a three side view of this plane with skies (please the also the dimensions of the Kaje).

Are there any pictures of the Breda's at the opening of Sola?

Hi

My grandfather was a doctor at Rena, one of the places bombed by the germans in their pursuit of the king during the invasion. He supposedly joined the norvegian armed forces as a doctor. We know little of this as he wouldnt talk much about it. He returned in rags summer of 1940, probably he was in german captivity at some point in time. What im courios about is an incident he mentioned where he and other doctors were lined up to get shot if they didnt reveal which one of them were jewish. ...

I am trying to locate any records of those in the British Army who served on a raid into Norway in, I think 1940. Specifically, Capt. Kermit Roosevelt, American President Roosevelt's second son. He volunteered to serve with the British in 1939 and in 1940 participated in the Norway raid. I would greatly appreciate anyone who could direct me to where I can find any records/infomation on this operation, particularly Roosevelt's involvement.

Hitler`s Pre-emptive war : The Battle for Norway, 1940 by Henrik O. Lunde

The Norwegian-American Lunde has succeeded in writing a thorough, well-balanced account of the fighting around Narvik in 1940.

By using accounts from all sides, but not accepting even recent publications at face value, he has managed to tell the story with fresh eyes.

The title of the book is slightly misleading, however. It focuses strongly on the fighting around Narvik, and other actions in and around Norway ...

Hi guys,

you probably all know about this anyway: a lost 80 minute Nazi propaganda film found in 2005. Available on download for FREE.

Here is a link to Wiki:

I stumbled across some stills from the film by accident (on blog.bearstrong.net -some kind of poilitical blog) when I was looking for pictures on Google of the Bergen-Voss railway.

The Netherlands has an on-line listing of all decorations awarded to both Dutch and foreign citizens during World War II. I am hoping something similar exists for Norwegian decorations. Such a site would list each Norwegian decoration and then give at least the name/rank/service of the person receiving the award, if not also the wording of the citation.

On 25th February 1945 a Stirling Bomber serial number LJ925 was dropping supplies to the Resistance in the Telemark area as part of Operation "Stirrup 2". While it was over Grimstad it was attacked by German night fighters and set on fire. The crew were ordered to bail out and three successfully jumped. Of the three, two were captured, but the third was hidden by the Resistance and got away.

The remainder of the crew perished when the Stirling crashed into Holen Fjord near Arendal.

Hello there,

I am researching information on Norwegian MTBs, part of the Allied Coastal Forces. The Norwegian Flotilla was originally known as the 30th and was based at Dover, but later this Flotilla was renamed as the 54th and sent to Lerwick, where raids on Norway took place. I am particularly interested in these raids and wondered if anyone could give advice or guidance on where to research for material?

The Len Reynolds books are an obvious place to start, but I would like to know if ...

In relation to a book I'm writing about the german prisoners of war camps in Rogaland, I've come across a couple of ranks that I'm not shure about. They are shortenings:

- Obstubaf.

- Oschaf.

- O/Feldw.

I have just received help, and we think that "Oschaf." means "Oberscharführer".

Now I'm left with "Obstubaf." and "O/Feldw." (Feldwebel I guess, but the "O")

"Obstubaf." was used as a title/rank for a Obstubaf. Wilkes, which ...

1: 1/IR9 was still in existence on 24 april (according to Robert M's site) but did not go to Valdres with the 4th brigade.

Hallo,

Was das "A" heisst ist Spekulation, ...

I Finnmark er krigen ennå ikke helt slutt. Mange gjenstander ligger fremdeles mer eller mindre skjult i terrenget. Blant annet finner vi mange vrakdeler etter dramatiske hendelser. Her er historien om et av disse stedene…

Dramatikk i luften over Kunes

”Bruddstykker hørtes gjennom larmen (…):

-	Angripes bakfra….

-	En brenner…

-	Angrep fra høyre…

-	Styrter…

Apparantly Norwegian he 115 flown to UK in 1940 were destined for clandestine operations.
A very few wuch missions took place. We hear about the Norwegian pilots Offerdal and Skavhaugen.
My questions are:
Were any other pilots involved?
Who were the navigators and machinists on these missions?
Were they Norwegians at all?
Thanks

Kompensierscheibe - Compass Swing - on Norwegian airfields

Does anyone have knowledge of what kind of Compass Swings you'd find around the German airfields in Norway?

From what I've come to understand the standard type was the ND 12/30 - Navigation Dreiescheibe, 12 meter diameter, 30 ton limit.

I believe the one at Sola See has been unearthed fairly recently. While it's not in great condition, there is no doubt that it's a compass swing - and it does coincide with the position in German maps.

I have seen a pic of a He111 on the Compass Swing ...

Does anyone have information on the Operation VPs that were carried out in Norway? I am aware that Bjorn Pedersen took part in a raid on shipping in Bergen, but other than that I have few details.

I am interested in all aspects of the ops including the names of Norwegians involved, the raids and the organisation behind it all. Were the raids successful? What were the losses? And was there any connections between the various secret organisations - SOE, SIS, XU, 30 AU etc.

Many thanks ...

En liten bokanbefaling:

HEMMELIG KRIG I NORD
