Commanding Admiral Diesen

Post  Bob Pearson on Mon 15 Sep 2008 - 21:49

Admiral Diesen was in Lillehammer April 1940. Apparently, he was accompanied by a Lt Diesen. By chance, does anyone know if Lt Diesen was in any way related to the Admiral and where did he accompany him to? Was it Tromsø and if so did the Lieutenant escape to Britain with the Admiral or did he remain behind in Norway?

I would greatly appreciate any answers or guidance to the above.

Kind regards,

Bob

Last thing first. The lt Diesen most likely is T Diesen Capt.lt Flight Commander of 330 (N) squadron

Then back to the Admiral. April 9th, the Commanding General (Laake), the Comanding Admiral (Diesen) and the Chief of the General staff was summoned to a meeting at Hamar with Government and Storting

Admiral Diesen had a son who was pilot and Lieutenant in the Royal Norwegian Naval Air Force. His name was Torstein(born 20.Nov 1911). When the Germans attacked Norway he served in Naval Air Base, Kristiansand.
Later Eidsøra Air Base and finally at Skattøra Air Base, Tromsø. He left for UK together with the planes from Skattøra. In London he became Air Attache. Later Flight Cdr. and Cdr. 330 sq. Thus I do not think he was in Lillehammer in April 1940.
But he had a sister, Unni(born 1909)who work for the Government and she followed them from Oslo to Tromsø and to UK. In 1965 she wrote a book about that "journey" - Kvinne i krig.

Many thanks to Leif and Alt For Norge for their replies - very much appreciated.

There was mention of Unni Diesen. Does anyone know if this lady followed the government by Hurtigruten ship and float-plane to Tromsø or did she follow the government directly - that is with government ministers and officials?

Cheers,

Bob
