Radio Broadcast by Fredrik Haslund - 1940

Post  Bob Pearson on Thu 26 Nov 2009 - 22:00

By chance, doeas anyone happen to know the name of the radio station that broadcasted Fredriks Haslund's tale about the gold transport? The date would have been late in the year 1940, possibily December.

Many thanks in advance,

Bob

Hei.
Øksendal says that FH held a radio-performance in four pieces at Christmas-time 1940, brought by the Norwegian Radio in USA
Norwegian government bought time for information on the commercial station WRUL in Boston, Mass.

Mange takk til hoh og Alt For Norge for svar.

I am trying to track down the original broadcast. It may not still be around, but will try my best.

Cheers

Bob and gold

Post  Leanda on Tue 22 Dec 2009 - 18:15

Dear Bob, My great uncle was Sir Cecil Dormer, the British ambassador in Norway in 1940, and my grandmother Ebba Dormer, was the widow of a Hambro. I saw a story in the newspapers a year or two ago about how Cecil used the Hambro connection in getting the gold out of Norway, or some such. I cannot now find any reference to it, however (the KIng and his son spent long periods in my grandparents house after they came to England). I have spotted your interest in the transportation of the gold and wonder if you saw it? I was also in touch with someone else who was interested in the gold in 2006, but I have been busy writing books on Tudor history and fell out of contact. It wasn't you was it? I long to get in touch with them again. Sorry this is not about the radio, best wishes, Leanda (nee Dormer)

Hi Leanda,

Many thanks for the mail.

Yes, it was me who you were in contact with. I too lost your contact details after my PC died, so it's good to make contact with you once again. Please mail me at bakerstreetrebel@yahoo.co.uk as I may have some interesting news for you with regards to your grandfather.

Kind regards,

Bob
