Norwegian MTBs during WW2:

Post  Bob Pearson on Sun 10 Jan 2010 - 16:14

Hello there,

I am researching information on Norwegian MTBs, part of the Allied Coastal Forces. The Norwegian Flotilla was originally known as the 30th and was based at Dover, but later this Flotilla was renamed as the 54th and sent to Lerwick, where raids on Norway took place. I am particularly interested in these raids and wondered if anyone could give advice or guidance on where to research for material?

The Len Reynolds books are an obvious place to start, but I would like to know if there are Norwegian sources where information is stored?

I am particularly interested in the boats that transported Patrick Dalzel-Job to and from Norway, but I am just as interested in other agents, British and Norwegian, that were all transported across the North Sea via MTBs.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Bob

Hei Bob

The most important Norwegian books for your purpose should be Jon Rustung Hegland: "Angrep i skjærgården", but as far as I have seen, nearly all agents brougth in by the MTB's was SIS-men, so Ragnar Ulstein's three volums on the intelligence service 1940-45 should also be very useful.
I believe I have some material put away somewhere that could be of some interest. Just give me a day or two to collect it, and I will mail it over

You might find som of what you're looking for in Arnfin Haga's book: "Klar til storm"
Even though it's a book about the norwegian commandoes, 40 of 180 pages are dedicated to the raids on the norwegian coast.
The commandoes went along for protection, for the most times. Other times they had missions on land.
