Further to my request: Today, I found out that there was a Hans Rohde Hanssen - Sgt from Norwegian SOE who was lost on Op Seagull. Interestingly, in Hjemmestyrkene by Sverre Kjeldstadli, he is listed as Hans Hansen Rohde. He is also listed in Ragnar Ulstein's Englandsfarten Bok II as Hans Rohde, Fana. Does anyone know which is the correct name?

Tomorrow, I will see if I can copy the file whilst at the TNA, but would hazard a guess that the Rohde in the files at Kew is not in anyway related to Kaptein Rohde of IR11.

Kind regards

Hei.
I believe we are caught by different spellings for silent consonants.
Standard work "Krigen i Norge 1940-1945" mentions a captain of the IR11 named Frithjof William Rode, a swedish born architect and officer of the reserve, living in Trondheim. Could he be your man?

The Lingesoldiers name is generally spelled Hans Rohde Hansen (in exceptional cases Hanssen). He was born i Trondheim, but lived in Sulitjelma when the war broke out

Hans Rohde, Fana (Fana is a suburb of Bergen) is probably identical with Hans Wichman Rohde, who were trained and served as a Spitfire-pilot.

Has no indication that the three were in the genus in any case

Hi Hans Olav,

Many thanks for your comments - much appreciated.

I think that the Swedish born Rohde is the one - there couldn't have been too many Kaptein Rohdes in IR11.

The others I have noted with interest, particularly the Spitfire pilot, but of course outside my immediate area of research. I suspect their stories will also be very interesting.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Bob
